IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a light based treatment that breaks up pigmentation such as freckles, acne scars, melasma, liver spots, moles, broken capillaries and other such areas of hyperpigmentation on the face or body. We proudly feature the Cynosure Icon™ for use in our clinic.

More Information on IPL

How does it work?

IPL is used to minimize wrinkles, sun damage, and facial veins. The Icon™ laser’s light beam is passed over your skin to help stimulate collagen production and treat a variety of skin concerns. The specifics of your Icon™ treatment will depend on the skin concerns you are trying to address.

What areas can be treated?

Virtually any part of the body can be treated, however the best treatment areas are the face, neck, chest and arms.

What kind of results can I expect and how many treatments will I need?

While some patients can see results in as few as one to two treatments, others require three to five treatments to reduce the visibility of wrinkles or scars and improve skin texture. Over time, you will notice the gradual reduction of fine lines and the firmer appearance of your facial complexion.

What does the procedure feel like and how long does it take?

An IPL treatment may provide a warm sensation on the treated areas. Some individuals have also described a pinching sensation similar to an elastic band being “snapped” on the skin.

Is there any downtime?

There is no downtime after an IPL session and most patients are able to resume normal activity immediately after treatment. It is common for patients to experience temporary redness and swelling which typically resolves within 2 days but may last as long as 2 weeks. Avoid unprotected sun exposure for one year to prevent irregular pigmentation.
